Original artwork description:

In May of 2022 I was invited by the social purpose organisation Friendship to visit the remote and isolated islands of Bangladesh that are suffering through flooding due to climate change.
On the small island of Porar Char I saw how Friendship and the local community had built a raised village that enabled the people to live above the flood level in comparative safety.
I wanted to capture this relief as well as any other emotions and I thought that asking a child, in this case Jakir to draw his house as he saw it now would provide me with raw undiluted emotion which ultimately I wanted to show in my painting of Jakir.
In my painting I replicated Jakir's drawing in the background adding some colour. I wanted the painting to say "Friendship will provide you with the pen and paper, you draw your future and we will help colour it in"

The painting is framed and will come with a signed certificate of authenticity.

Materials used:

oil on canvas
