The Hermit steps away from the world deliberately because the most important things cannot be found in noise. This painting is that moment. The moment someone chooses silence and finds inside it an extraordinary amount of light. Almost entirely pale — ivory, warm white, raw cream layered with visible brushwork. Dark shadow sits in the corners holding the brightness in place. That is the Hermit's lantern. Small, steady, carried inward.
