About Dan Laurentiu Arcus

Biography

pDan Arcus is a Romanian-born visual artist whose work moves between figurative painting, surrealism and contemporary mythology./ppHis practice explores the relationship between reality and the stories human beings construct around it. Drawing from mythology, psychology, social behaviour, technology and popular culture, Arcus creates images in which familiar subjects inhabit improbable situations—sometimes playful, sometimes unsettling./ppRecurring themes include human curiosity, power, belief, memory, technological evolution and our desire to understand or control forces larger than ourselves. Humour, absurdity and beauty often coexist with darker implications, leaving the narrative deliberately open for the viewer to complete./ppHis recent work increasingly examines the new mythologies emerging around technology, artificial intelligence and humanity's changing relationship with the natural and artificial worlds./ppWorking primarily in oil painting and large-scale pastel and charcoal drawing, Arcus combines traditional figurative techniques with contemporary imagery and surreal visual narratives./ppHis work has been exhibited internationally and is held in more than 150 private collections worldwide./ppArcus lives and works in Brussels, Belgium./ppbr/p-January - March 2021 - Group exhibition at Ubique Gallery, Dinant, Belgium/pp-December 2019- solo exhibition at the European Court of Auditors-Agora room/pp-June 2019 - group exhibition at the National Museum of Art of Cluj-Napoca, Romania/pp-March 2019 - Solo exhibition at Laval Gallery in Liege, Belgium/p
