Pickled Atomic Blast I (2022) Original Oil Painting by Dan Laurentiu Arcus

An atomic explosion seemed like an appropriate ingredient for God's Kitchen: extraordinary, terrifying, strangely beautiful and very definitely created by humans.

Here it has been reduced to the scale of something familiar—a preserve in a glass jar, labelled and apparently under control. The label reads Non consumunt post August MCMXLV, pointing towards August 1945 and giving the object the absurd familiarity of something one might discover forgotten at the back of a pantry.

Whether the jar makes its contents safer is another question.
