The Alps and the Durance under a deck-chair sky.
'Where It All Starts' is a meditation on origin; geographic, emotional, and personal. This little cameo piece oil painting draws its structure from the landscape of the Durance valley, where the diagonal sweep of the river cuts through the fields and leads the eye toward the distant line of the Alps. This geography is distilled into bands of colour that carry the memory of place rather than its topography. Landscapes are experienced in layers; the weight of the earth beneath us, the shifting colours of the sky above, and the paths and rivers that carry us forward. The Durance becomes a gesture of movement, a line of beginning. The Alps become a horizon of permanence, the boundary between sky and earth. Colour is the primary architecture here. Warm strata rise in the sky like the first flare of morning, while cooler purples and greens anchor the land. The composition is intentionally simple, almost elemental, allowing the viewer to feel the landscape before interpreting it.
