Original artwork description
This series of work explores themes of isolation and detachment while using relatable subject matter like public transport interiors.
I ultimately want to convey an existentialist presence in my interior paintings. Even-though the space depicts an abstracted interior of a physical space, the work associates itself more with a metaphor of internal human conditioning and routine in which we find ourselves.
“The public transport theme intrigued me, the idea of commuters, students, regular passengers, travel, work, ipads, iphones, headphones, laptops, phone calls, text messages, email alerts all congealed together.
The idea of travel signifies movement however my work strives to achieve the opposite. To create a dichotomy between the transient technological age we live in, alongside a heavy emotional stagnancy is where my commentary lies”.
