Inanna's Return (2026) Original Acrylic Painting by Pia Järvinen

'Inanna's Return' came to life as I was reading about an old Sumerian myth. Goddess Inanna descends to the underworld to overthrow its ruler. She perishes in there but is given the chance to come back to life. But with one catch, Inanna has to leave someone in the netherworld in her place.

This painting was originally called 'Inanna's Descent to the Underworld ', and the underpainting reflects that part of her journey. But as the myth goes, I could only finish the painting with her return.

The painting has a rich, textured feel. Satin varnish added for durability. The edges of the painting have been painted white. Signature on the back. Certificate of authenticity included. Ready to hang.
