impermanence 2 (2026) Original Acrylic Painting by Lander Ver Eecke

80 x 120 x 2cm (unframed)

£1,176.31

This work is inspired by Pompeii: a city buried by the eruption of Mount Vesuvius in 79 AD, lost from view and rediscovered centuries later. It explores impermanence not as a final ending, but as a layered process of disappearance, preservation, and re-emergence.
The cracked paste evokes the ruin and the passage of time. Earthy layers cover an orange underlayer: a trace of heat and eruption, but also a symbol of the present. Just as a future layer will cover the present moment, Pompeii was hidden from sight by natural forces. Yet those same forces also helped preserve the city.
The work explores nature’s dual power: destructive, yet conserving; indifferent to humanity, yet responsible for what can be seen again after two thousand years.

Materials used:

handmade paste and acrylic paint
