Illuminated Sky
This piece is suitable for a truly massive wall, measuring 160 x 160 cm (63 x 63 in). It features intricate layering of oil paint, oil sticks, gel medium, and digitally manipulated photography, finished with a satin gloss varnish.
Illuminated Sky marks the beginning of a new series and a new direction in my work — one I've been searching for, and am incredibly proud to have found. Each piece in this series invites the viewer to look upward through the branches of a tree toward the sky beyond. Because the sky is always changing, and leaves are never still, I chose to work with chrome paint: its shifting light gives the painting itself a sense of constant motion. The contrast between this luminous surface and the matte texture of the oil sticks creates a depth I am far from finished exploring — many more works in this style will follow.
The piece is set in a handmade wooden floating frame, custom-built specifically for this work, enhancing its sculptural, three-dimensional presence.
