"If only..." (2024) Original Oil Painting by Nina Grigel
150 x 100cm (unframed)
£1,723.83
Original artwork description
Oil on canvas, removable beaded element on magnets.
The painting is dedicated to the Sami people living in Sweden.
The Sami are a small Fino–Ugric people, the only European people officially recognized as the "indigenous" people of Northern Europe.
It all started with them.
Then others came…
All that was left to the old Sami was a shop near the house, a national costume and thoughts about unborn children, as their people turned out to be "ethnically inferior inhabitants" for the government of their country, subject to sterilization.
Ghosts running across a snowy field are translucent, with running deer inside them, a symbol of unborn children.
Above all, the blue beads of the moon.
