human nails XII (2024) Original Sculpture by Manfred Hellweger

The work ‘human nails XII’ consists of numerous individual wire pins, joined together by precisely placed weld spots to form an abstract human figure. From this multitude of individual elements emerges a delicate yet powerful sculpture, whose open structure directs the viewer’s gaze to the essential.
Each individual nail symbolises a thought, an emotion or a feeling and becomes part of a greater whole. The characteristic reduction in form evokes mindfulness and simplicity.
Thanks to its base made of fibre-reinforced, frost-resistant concrete, the sculpture is also ideally suited for outdoor use.
The surface was created using a custom-made, brushed larch timber formwork, whose natural grain is visible in the concrete and forms a striking contrast to the delicate metal structure.
