Original artwork description
In the work “human flow YMIR”, Manfred Hellweger condenses human existence into a vertically flowing structure made of steel - austere, fragmented, permeable.
The figure appears both ordered and dissolved - a symbol of modern human, whose identity is in a constant state of flux.
The title refers to Ymir, a moon of Saturn, named after a mythical primordial figure - a bridge between cosmic space and human existence. In this way, the human being is shown as part of a larger context: fleeting, structured, embedded in an infinite structure of time, matter and movement.
Hellweger's sculpture is a poetic balance of mass and emptiness, permanence and dissolution - a philosophical commentary on the question: What remains of man in the flow of the universe?
The surface was sealed with a matt clear varnish to prevent the steel from oxidizing.
