Hippocampus (2026) Original Acrylic Painting by Grâce Pégéron

I usually work by instinct - one movement, decided in the moment, no plan behind it. This one I built. The horizon came first: pale sky, grey-green water, split high across the canvas. Then a seahorse, made from four or five strokes and no more, held rather than thrown. Where the strokes cross, a trace of ochre surfaces - the only unplanned thing in the piece. Two yellow sparks drift off to the right. I don't have a tidy explanation for them, and I've stopped trying to find one.

It's the first time I've painted from a construction instead of a gesture — a deliberate departure from how I usually work. Movement is still where I live, but this one earned its place: a single experiment, carried through and resolved.
