This photograph was taken at Loch Badenloch in the Scottish Highlands in 2024, on an evening with beautiful light and dramatic clouds over the distant hills.

I used intentional camera movement (ICM) to give the landscape a soft, painterly appearance. At the same time, the movement helped me simplify the scene, removing distracting details such as grass, fences and other small elements.

What remains are the things I love most about the Scottish landscape: water, hills, changing weather and light. The warm evening colours contrast with the cooler tones of the loch and the distant hills, creating a simple, peaceful composition.
