Held Back (2026) Original Acrylic Painting by Gera Dunachie

35 x 35 x 4cm (unframed)

£380

A restrained composition built from layered whites, soft greys and areas of clear turquoise, held together by sparse black and red linear marks. The broad, worked surface creates a sense of movement, while the small red line near the pale upper field brings the tension to a precise point.

Its cool, light palette brings clarity and spaciousness to a room, while the turquoise passages give it enough presence to hold its own. At 35 × 35 cm, it works well in a hallway, study or calm living space, either on its own or as part of a contemporary grouping.

Acrylics on cradled wood panel.
35 × 35 x 4cm.
Unframed, with fished edges and ready to hang.
Protected with satin anti-UV varnish.
Signed and supplied with a certificate of authenticity.

I'm a London-based abstract painter working with acrylic and mixed media on cradled wood panel. My paintings build through layering and reduction. They tend to be geometric in structure, with colour that moves between cold restraint and moments of warmth and friction.

I have aphantasia and synaesthesia, which means that I can't visualise in advance and colour arrives as sensation rather than image. Each painting develops through that process, with earlier marks and decisions left visible in the surface. What remains is what earned its place.
