Artwork description
Grön Eld is a glass sculpture by Vicke Lindstrand on Järnvägstorget, in front of Umeå Central Station, unveiled in 1970. At nine metres, it was the largest glass sculpture in the world at the time of its unveiling. The sculpture consists of three twisted glass columns that taper upwards, built up from three thousand thin glass panels. It was commissioned by HSB and donated to Umeå municipality.
In the print, station and sculpture meet. The first plate documents the building in black. The second plate is hand-inked each time with black, green and yellow ink. Each print is unique in colour and movement.
This is a unique state print: every impression is individually hand-inked. No two are identical. I have only made 12 of them; this is number 5.
