A simple enamel kettle, but nothing about this painting feels simple. The deep forest green of the body sings against the warm terracotta background, two complementary colours pushing each other to maximum vibrancy.
Painted in oils, the challenge here was enamel, a surface that is glossy yet soft, reflective yet coloured. The highlights are crisp and bright, the shadows deep and complex, the whole surface alive with the movement of light. The black handle cuts through cleanly, anchoring the composition.
