Green Apple (2012) Original Oil Painting by Alexander Levich

Alexander Levich’s Green Apple captures the intimacy of a room through the things its occupants have left within view. A lamp, personal belongings and a single green apple sit beside a large window. Beyond the glass, turquoise and pale blue loosen into an indistinct exterior.

The painting was shown in Levich’s thematic solo exhibition Weekend, whose concept came from a true romantic story. During one November evening, sudden snow made the outside world seem to disappear around two loved ones.

Warm interior colours and the cool window view give this work its emotional contrast. The apple, clearly defined against the blue, introduces a restrained suggestion of desire. Its reflection and the surrounding objects draw attention back towards the room and the private life implied within it.

Painted in oil on canvas in 2012, Green Apple measures 80 × 185 × 2 cm. Its elongated format combines the openness of a window view with the close attention of a still life.
