The main concourse of Grand Central Terminal, where a century of arrivals and departures has worn the marble smooth. I held the exposure long enough for the crowd to blur into movement while the architecture stayed perfectly still.

That contrast is the subject: the permanence of the room against the impermanence of everyone passing through it. The great windows, the vaulted ceiling, and the warm stone hold their ground while the travelers dissolve into streaks of motion. A building designed for movement, photographed as the one thing that does not move.
