“Traces in Water” (2023) Original Mixed-media Painting by Maria Gruzdova

This large scale painting explores movement, depth and the quiet rhythm of water. Layers of turquoise, blue and violet tones create a sense of fluid space, where vibrant fish appear to drift through the composition.

The work began from a very small study on paper, inspired by a simple combination of colours and abstract forms. As the painting developed on a large canvas, the composition started to resemble water and depth. The fish emerged naturally and spontaneously, as if they were already part of the painting.

The fine lines across the surface reflect movement and connection. They can be seen as paths, traces or intersections, suggesting how lives, choices and experiences overlap and influence one another over time.

Commissions are available. I can create a similar piece inspired by this work, adapting the colour palette or mood while keeping each painting unique.
