GATEWAY
Oil and enamel on canvas
Gateway explores the idea of a threshold — a passage between two spaces, two states of being, or two different dimensions of perception. The image suggests an opening whose meaning remains deliberately ambiguous: it may be an entrance, a passage, a portal, or a point of transition toward something that lies beyond the visible.
The combination of oil and enamel paint creates a dialogue between different qualities of matter. The depth, density, and tactile character of oil interact with the more fluid, reflective, and industrial quality of enamel, producing a tension between the organic and the artificial, between the tangible surface and the illusion of another space.
The gateway does not necessarily lead to a clearly defined destination. Instead, it becomes a metaphor for possibility and transformation. It marks the moment when one state ends and another begins, when the familiar gives way to the unknown. The space beyond the threshold remains open to interpretation, allowing the viewer to complete the image through personal associations and experiences.
At the same time, the work can be read as an inner gateway — a passage into memory, imagination, or a hidden dimension of consciousness. The visible form becomes a point of departure rather than a conclusion.
In Gateway, the act of painting becomes an exploration of the boundary between what is seen and what is imagined. The threshold is therefore not simply an architectural or spatial element, but a state of transition — a place where reality opens toward possibility.
