Original artwork description
Under the lime trees of the summer garden, Prague at the turn of the century sits at white tables. A garden restaurant in the late afternoon — a place where business was closed, poems were written, and love stories were told that were never spoken aloud. On one table, a celebration cake is lit, on the next, two beers and silence, on another, indifference. A waiter walks between the tables. A woman in a pink hat has turned. A slice of the world so concrete that you can almost feel it.
In the summer of the turn of the century, the garden restaurant was what a café is today — a place where Prague met itself. The painter captured it at an hour when the light still lingers, but evening is already knocking on the door.
