Gap (2023) Original Stone Sculpture by Michael Rofka

I started with this peice of marble to make something like a loop. There was already the hole in the center when I saw there was a fine break at one side. So it was clear that I had to find another way for this sculpture and I decided to make an open loop with a small gap. Now I'm sure that the the result is better than the first concept. The gap is expression of a tension between the two ends. At the surface I let the traces of the angle grinder but I polished about this structure. So it's also beautyful to touch. The sculptur is fixed on a dark block of stone.
