A frozen river winds silently through a dense forest of towering pine trees, its icy surface shimmering with layered reflections of deep emerald, soft teal, and luminous violet. The water, locked beneath a thick sheet of ice, appears almost glass-like. Around it, the evergreens rise in heavy clusters along the riverbanks, their forms softened and blurred by the impressionist brushwork. Their dark green silhouettes sway gently in suggestion rather than detail, evoking the sensation of wind moving through the forest rather than depicting it literally.

Above, a vast and dramatic storm sky dominates the composition, rendered in sweeping, textured strokes of forest green, deep indigo, and storm-laden violet. The clouds appear to churn and dissolve into one another, their edges dissolving into soft transitions of colour that suggest motion and atmosphere rather than fixed form. Occasional breaks in the cloud cover.
The entire scene is painted in a distinctly impressionist style, with visible, expressive brushstrokes that prioritise mood and sensation over precise realism. Colour is used boldly and intuitively, with unexpected harmonies of green and purple blending across the canvas to create a dreamlike, almost surreal atmosphere. The frozen river becomes a central ribbon of calm amid the surrounding turbulence, its stillness emphasised by the energetic movement of the sky and forest.

The painting evokes a powerful emotional contrast—serenity and tension, silence and motion, cold stillness and atmospheric unrest. It feels immersive and atmospheric, as though the viewer is standing at the edge of the river, sensing the weight of the approaching storm while being enveloped in the quiet, haunting beauty of a winter landscape transformed through impressionist vision.

Painted with a palette knife using quality artists paints on a small square format 8" x 8" (20 x 20cm) canvas, with a varnish finish and white square profile wooden frame with cord ready to hang.
