Just For Fun (2026) Original Acrylic Painting by Adam Bogusz

Sometimes you do a thing for no reason but the joy of it. You take the detour, you stay out longer than you planned, you ride just to feel the ride.
Just for Fun is an original acrylic painting on board, 30 x 20cm, part of my ongoing series The Middle Country. It began the way these paintings always do, with a loose, accidental ground, half accident and half intention, made somewhere in the middle where the paint and I meet. Out of that ground came a rust red ridge, cockatoos scattered through the gum trees, and a boy on a bicycle riding along the top of the world for no reason at all.
I paint the things that mean something to me: my family, held in the figures and the birds who move through this glowing, imagined landscape. This one is about the pure, unreasoned pleasure of doing something simply because it feels good, with nowhere in particular to be.
