There is a deep trust in letting the current carry you, the kind that comes when you stop steering and let life find its own course. You do not need to know the way when the water already does.
The Water Knows the Way is an original acrylic painting on board, 40 x 30cm, part of my ongoing series The Middle Country. It began the way these paintings always do, with a loose, accidental ground, half accident and half intention, made somewhere in the middle where the paint and I meet. Out of that ground came a long run of turquoise water, golden trees crowded with cockatoos along its banks, a figure floating above the current, and a homestead on the high ground with someone standing at the fence.
I paint the things that mean something to me: my family, held in the figures and the birds who move through this glowing, imagined landscape. This one is about trust, the relief of stopping the steering and letting the current do what it has always known how to do.
Painted with artist quality acrylics on MDF board. Ready to hang. Certificate of authenticity included. Ships worldwide direct from my studio in Brisbane, Australia.
