There is a shape to every day that only becomes visible once someone is missing from it. And still the birds gather, and still the world pours on, because that is what it does.
Since You've Been Gone is an original acrylic painting on board, 60 x 40cm, part of my ongoing series The Middle Country. It began the way these paintings always do, with a loose, accidental ground, half accident and half intention, made somewhere in the middle where the paint and I meet. Out of that ground came a swirl of blue and pink, cockatoos gathered in golden trees, and two figures standing at the top of a ridge, where the quiet is.
I paint the things that mean something to me: my family, held in the figures and the birds who move through this glowing, imagined landscape. This one is about the particular shape a day takes on once it holds an absence, and the strange comfort of the world continuing anyway.
Painted with artist quality acrylics on MDF board. Ready to hang. Certificate of authenticity included. Ships worldwide direct from my studio in Brisbane, Australia.
