The Gateway (2026) Original Acrylic Painting by Adam Bogusz

There are moments that ask you to step forward before you can see what waits on the other side. The not knowing is the price, and you pay it, and you go.
The Gateway is an original acrylic painting on board, 30 x 20cm, part of my ongoing series The Middle Country. It began the way these paintings always do, with a loose, accidental ground, half accident and half intention, made somewhere in the middle where the paint and I meet. Out of that ground came a golden green landscape, cockatoos gathered in the trees below, and two figures rising up past an old gate that leads nowhere and everywhere at once.
I paint the things that mean something to me: my family, held in the figures and the birds, moving through a glowing, imagined Australian landscape. This one is about the courage that stepping forward takes, when there is nothing on the other side to see yet, only the decision to go.
