Original artwork description
Forty Nine is a dramatic monochrome painting based on a 7 x 7 grid, making 49 individual panes. After painting the background in grey I marked up the grid in pencil, then added fluid black paint on white, or white on black and used gravity to get them to drip. If you look closely you will see that I used gravity in two opposing directions, in alternating panes.
Forty Nine would be a great present for a 49th birthday, but is also one of my favorite monochrome abstracts. It would suit a variety of homes and apartments and make a real difference to any room. Forty Nine is ready to hang.
Materials used:
Brush used for the base layer, then acrylic paint was dripped on in a controlled way.
