Folded Bloom Study (2025) Original Mixed-media Sculpture by Tatiana Johnson

63 x 83 x 3cm / 60 x 80cm (actual image size)

£3,000.13

'Folded Bloom Study' explores what happens when a photographic image is translated into a soft, translucent textile surface. A photographic image is sublimation-printed onto layered polyester, then hand-stitched and gathered so that folds, overlaps, and shifts in the material become part of the image itself.

Rather than remaining a flat photograph, the work moves between image and object. Light passes through and across the translucent textile, revealing different densities, traces, and details depending on the viewing angle. The visible hand stitching forms part of the construction and emphasizes the tactile process through which the photograph is transformed.

The work reflects my ongoing interest in photographic materiality, translucency, fragmentation, and the unstable boundary between photography and textile-based object.

Materials used:

Sublimation-printed photographic image on layered translucent polyester; hand stitching; wooden stretcher frame
