This photograph captures Palsangjeon Pagoda at Beopjusa Temple in Boeun, North Chungcheong Province — the only surviving five-story wooden pagoda in Korea, its tiered roofs rising toward Songnisan's misted peaks. A golden finial crowns the structure, its thin spire and hanging chains catching what little light passes through the pale spring sky. Layer after layer of curved eaves recede upward, each one darker than the last, until the pagoda seems to fold into the fog behind it. In the foreground, azaleas bloom in loose, unruly clusters of pink and magenta, their softness a striking contrast to the pagoda's rigid geometry. It's this pairing that stays with me — a structure built with mathematical precision, framed by flowers that follow no plan at all, both somehow at home on the same mountainside.
