First contact (2026) Original Acrylic Painting by Daria Vergina

40 x 60 x 2cm (unframed) / 40 x 60cm (actual image size)

£531.59

First Contact explores the quiet moment when something unfamiliar first enters our inner space.

Soft fields of sky blue, pale turquoise, misty grey, warm white and natural stone tones float across the canvas, separated by areas of open space. The fragmented forms appear to approach one another without fully merging, creating a subtle tension between distance and connection.

The painting is not a literal landscape, but an abstract emotional landscape. The open blue field can suggest air, water or an endless horizon, while the scattered forms become fragments of memory, experience or another presence entering our awareness.

Within my artistic practice, the horizon represents an inner state — a point between uncertainty and awareness, distance and connection. First Contact captures the moment before familiarity: when we encounter something new and have not yet decided whether to move closer.

The restrained palette and spacious composition create a calm, contemplative atmosphere, allowing the viewer to experience the work intuitively.

Original contemporary abstract painting, acrylic on cotton canvas, 60 × 40 cm.
