Original artwork description
In this painting, I explore the tension between identity, social expectation, and the roles we perform in contemporary life. A seated figure in a vivid purple suit cuts a red tie on a plate with a knife and fork, transforming an ordinary meal into an unexpected ritual.
The tie, associated with work, status, and conformity, becomes something to be consumed, or perhaps dismantled. The gesture can suggest both the internalization of imposed identities and the desire to break free from them. By partially concealing the figure’s face, I shift attention from the individual to the symbolic action, making the scene feel both personal and universal.
Strong contrasts of purple, red, and soft pink give the composition an almost theatrical calm. Through this simple, slightly absurd gesture, the painting reflects on identity, conformity, and the possibility of redefining oneself.
