Final Cut (2024) Original Acrylic Painting by Luis López

105 x 145 x 1.5cm (unframed) / 105 x 145cm (actual image size)

£5,835.06

Final Cut explores identity, social expectations, and the roles people perform in contemporary life. In this contemporary figurative painting, a seated figure in a vivid purple suit cuts a red tie on a plate with a knife and fork, transforming an ordinary meal into an unexpected, almost ritualistic scene.

Traditionally associated with professional identity, status, and conformity, the tie becomes something to be consumed, rejected, or dismantled. This ambiguous gesture suggests both the internalization of imposed identities and the desire to break free from them. The partially concealed face directs attention toward the symbolic action, inviting viewers to consider their own relationship with social expectations.

Purple, red, and soft pink create a theatrical stillness, while the surreal imagery introduces a subtle sense of absurdity. Combining figurative painting with social commentary, Final Cut explores the tension between personal identity and the social roles people are expected to perform.

Final Cut was selected for presentation at HAAM 2026 in Hamburg as part of a group exhibition.
