Whether the feverish erotic pitch is embodied solely by the painting's central figure, or is shared by an imagined approaching lover (or inclusive yet of the image's viewer as voyeur, an equal and necessary participant in the culmination of a particularly libidinous triumvirate) is up for speculation.
