Gabbro is a mafic intrusive igneous rock formed from the slow cooling of magma into a holocrystalline mass deep beneath the Earth's surface. Much of the Earth's oceanic crust is made of gabbro. Because of its large crystalline structure it can be polished and reflect with light. The artist's concept to combine it with optical glass is to explore both its exterior and interior light reflecting qualities. They are seen like portals to another dimension of reality.
