I am very fond of this view when we visited Devon. We went walking here one evening, it had been raining heavily and the clouds were just clearing. The winds were bracing and the skies turbulent, the blues of the ocean, white surf and windswept sky were very inspiring. There were two people standing close to the shore line looking out to sea and in the evening light they were silhouetted against the back drop of the ocean and the sun low in the sky, which creates a beautiful narrative for a sunset painting.
An original Artwork, one of a Kind, this unique painting has been created using oils paints and sand from the beach on a deep-edged canvas.
My creative process begins with direct observation of the location, where I make sketches, notes, and take photographs. Back in the studio, I work intuitively, first building up base layers with a brush before applying successive layers of impasto using a palette knife.
I draw inspiration from both Impressionist optical mixing techniques and traditional methods used by the old masters, such as scumbling and glazing. These layered approaches allow the work to evolve organically until it reaches a natural and resolved conclusion.
For shipping the painting will be packaged flat in a reinforced cardboard box and will arrive ready to hang with a certificate of authenticity.
