Etude (2025) Original Oil Painting by Stanislava Cherkasova

50 x 60 x 1cm (unframed)

£635.42

I painted this portrait of an acquaintance to investigate abrupt, unexpected collisions between warm and cool color tinges. Yet despite this primarily formal exploration, something of the sitter's personality managed to surface. Perhaps inevitably - even when treating a face just as an opportunity for painting rather than portrait subject, character has a way of asserting itself. There's a certain complexity, in his nature that somehow translated into the work's uneasy solution. So it's a curious outcome when the search for painterly truth stumbled upon psychological truth along the way.
