Escape XVII (2026) Original Acrylic Painting by Zeljka Paic
60 x 80 x 2cm (unframed) / 60 x 80cm (actual image size)
£1,527.84
Original artwork description
Escape XVII is a painting of an imagined architectural composition positioned on the coast.
It may seem confusing how the two arched walls are organized, but they are correctly rendered in perspective. Only the wall that connects them and recedes into the distance aligns with the eye point (vanishing point), so you can't see it, but you can see the shadows on the floor cast by the arches on that wall.
Some things are deliberately abstracted, such as shadows, by being either elongated or shortened to follow the concept. The painting has several perfect rectangles and parallel lines in it, which also contribute to abstraction.
That's what art can offer, which is that everything is possible in it and that the laws we know don't have to apply in every case, so that something can be created that did not exist before.
If the viewers could enter the painting, they would have more choices about which arc to pass through, but they all lead to the blue horizon, which again represents mystery and unanswered questions. But in the meantime, we can enjoy the greenery, cypress trees, architecture, and sun on that journey if we so choose and if we don't miss that opportunity.
