Entre Cetáceos (2024) Original Mixed-media Painting by Sarah Kutz

Among Cetaceans is inspired by the marine creatures that inhabit the Valdivian coast of southern Chile, where it's common to encounter southern right whales, orcas, dolphins, and more. Living in daily contact with nature here is a privilege, and a constant source of inspiration for my work.

This piece was painted in August 2024, during the Valdivian winter, and its cool yet vibrant palette carries the feeling of that season. Seen from a distance, it reads as an abstract vision — an immense body of water; seen up close, another layer emerges, revealing real and imagined creatures drawn in detail, interacting and weaving together into a visual narrative that unfolds across the full scale of the canvas.
