The Empire State Building at dusk, when the city's lights come on but the sky still holds its colour. I photographed the skyline from a distance that lets the tower do what it was designed to do: preside.

New York rewards patience at this hour. For a few minutes the artificial and the natural light balance perfectly, and the skyline reads as one composition rather than a thousand buildings. This frame holds that balance, with the Empire State as the vertical anchor of the whole.
