Artwork description
This is the first piece in a series exploring emergent phenomena in nature. This one deals with schooling behavior in fish, with cameo appearances by some of the other elements in the series, such as the nervous system, helium hydride ions, and xenobots. The composition is inspired by the computation model cellular automata, wherein local rules give rise to global patterns.
The black layer is printed from a woodblock, and the print is hand painted with watercolor. Each print in the edition is therefore unique. They are marked as a Varied Edition, and numbered "VE x/15."
