Echidna (2021) Original Oil Painting by Artúr Haránt

32 x 42 x 1.5cm (framed)

£2,566.5

In Greek mythology, Echidna is known as the mother of all monsters. However, this piece looks beyond the literal creature to capture the raw, untamed, and often terrifying forces she represents.

The mythological background of my images is the same as the foundation of the original myths themselves: a symbolic description of nature. They are molded from the very substance that dreams are formed from. Over time, this has become dead matter (as mythologist Károly Kerényi noted), much like the sheet music of a composition, which does not sound like a musical piece on its own unless it is actually played. I have attempted to play this dead matter as live music.

Please note: there is a minor scratch on the top of the frame.

Materials used:

Oil painting with acrylic underpainting on canvas mounted on board
