Original artwork description:

What is it?
This is a multimedia collage painting depicting an imagined landscape that combines the digital world we inhabit.

Why did you create it?
Technology evolves quickly and impacts our lives. It can shape our lifestyles and work environments and can help create new ideas that feed into beliefs. It seems like in todays world so much of what we do is digital and computer related. This multimedia collage painting is inspired by this reality. Barcodes became the foundation to reflect on this as for me it represents the digital landscape we live in. It can store information and help systemise, organise the modern world we find ourselves in. Just like the title of this painting I wanted it to reference an imagined landscape, a landscape to contemplate in.

When I think about it, the digital information and systems may not appear physical but it exists and our beliefs make it real. It is a way of bringing to the surface our metaphysical beliefs that inhabit this digital system.

What materials and techniques were used?
This triptych painting of 2 is built up from layers from barcode paper cutouts that I assembled piece by piece onto the recycled canvas board. On top I then applied household white paint to the barcodes and masked off areas to create contrast. Next I poured acrylic paints with medium on top. After it dried I removed the masking tape and got to work hand painting the blue gradient lines that helps to create the contrast. Then to complete this painting I then applied gloss varnish to the poured surface.

The finish is full of depth from the barcode paper cutouts to the oozing paints. Its textural and glossy with the light simmering off the surface. The process morphed into this Digital Landscape
