Dark Threshold (2026) Original Acrylic Painting by Daria Vergina

40 x 60 x 2cm (unframed) / 40 x 60cm (actual image size)

£514.31

Dark Threshold explores the moment of standing before an inner boundary — the point where what is familiar meets the unknown.

A dominant structure of deep natural black occupies the centre of the composition, surrounded by fragments of warm ivory, soft stone grey, muted sand and pale mineral blue. Delicate linear marks and textured passages interrupt the solid forms, creating a contrast between weight and fragility.

The central dark form can be experienced as a threshold rather than an object. It represents an internal boundary that may feel protective, restrictive or impossible to cross. The surrounding open space leaves room for uncertainty and reflection.

Within my artistic practice, the horizon is an inner state rather than a physical line. Dark Threshold explores the moment before crossing an internal boundary — when we become aware of what holds us back and begin to question whether it still belongs to us.

The restrained palette and strong geometric forms create a quiet but powerful atmosphere, making the work particularly suited to contemporary and minimalist interiors.

Original contemporary abstract painting, acrylic on cotton canvas, 60 × 40 cm.
