dallol (2026) Original Acrylic Painting by Lander Ver Eecke

80 x 120 x 2cm (unframed)

£1,150.3

Dallol is one of the most extreme and remote places on earth — a volcanic landscape in the Danakil Depression of northern Ethiopia, where sulphur springs, acid pools and vast salt formations create a world that feels almost alien. Temperatures regularly exceed 50°C, making it one of the hottest inhabited places on the planet.

This work attempts to capture that overwhelming, primal heat. The process begins with a handmade paste, developed entirely in my own studio from carefully selected materials — strong yet flexible, colorfast and odorless. Applied directly by hand onto canvas, the paste builds a raw, volcanic surface of vertical ridges and fissures, echoing the cracked, mineral-rich terrain of the Dallol landscape.

Materials used:

handmade paste and acrylic paint
