I always think of Curbar Edge as an iconic spot in the Derbyshire Peak District. To me it is one of those special places full of magic and a particular atmosphere that I want to revisit again and again.
Unusually for me this painting is entirely done in acrylic. I wanted to execute the piece, with its sunset view and hazy background landscape falling away into the middle distance, as quickly as possible but paint wet on dry - it seemed to me that acrylic was exactly the right medium for the task.
The colours I left slightly heightened to give it that surreal quality the place has in abundance in real life. If you haven't been, go!
