Crumpled Can (2026) Original Oil Painting by Nimasha Perera

An empty tin can, crushed and discarded, the kind of thing most people would step over without a second glance. And yet, look closely, and it becomes something else entirely.

This painting found its subject in the least likely of places. The crumpled metal folds and buckles like fabric, its polished surface catching and distorting the light in a hundred small reflections. The lid, peeled back and bent, adds a final gesture of movement to the sculptural form.

Painted in oils against a quiet neutral background, every dent and glint was studied closely, because the whole point is transformation, taking something used up and thrown away and insisting, through paint, that it is worth looking at.
