A railway crossing, open barriers and a small building with a red roof form the centre of the composition. Nothing dramatic occurs. Instead, the painting focuses on atmosphere, space and the subtle beauty of an ordinary location encountered during travel. The restrained palette and expansive sky create a sense of calm that contrasts with the functional nature of the setting.

The work recalls aspects of contemporary minimal landscape painting and artists such as Edward Hopper, who discovered emotional depth within seemingly simple places.
