Courage in the Saddle (2026) Original Acrylic Painting by Paul Cheng

I wanted to capture the instant a bronco bucks and its rider fights to stay balanced—a contest of strength and courage. I used bold brushwork, intersecting lines, and scattered flecks of paint to suggest movement and rising dust, allowing parts of the horse and rider to dissolve into the background. Warm reds and ochres contrast with cool turquoise, while sharp highlights emphasize the rider’s gesture and the horse’s tense muscles, bringing energy and immediacy to the scene.
